Is Changi Airport WiFi safe?

What the Singapore Changi Airport WiFi is called, what its sign-in page asks for, and how to check it before you trust it.

Short answer

Changi’s “#WiFi@Changi” is a good option: free, no registration and no personal details. Because the real sign-in asks for nothing, anything that asks for details is a warning sign. Use HTTPS, and run a quick check if you plan to bank or work.

What the sign-in page should ask for

Changi says you do not need to register, pay or give personal information. That makes it easy to spot a fake: any Changi “sign-in” that asks for your email, phone, passport or card is not behaving like the official network.

Rule of thumb for any airport: a WiFi sign-in page may ask you to accept terms, watch an ad or enter basic contact details. It should never ask for a card number, your email password or a bank login.

Lookalike networks

The only name on Changi’s page is #WiFi@Changi (with the hash). Variants like WiFi@Changi, Changi Free WiFi or Changi_Airport aren’t official.

Copycat networks (“evil twins”) work by broadcasting a name that looks trusted, sometimes with a stronger signal than the real one. CISA advises confirming the name of a public hotspot before you use it, so if two similar names appear, ask staff or check the airport’s website.

A 5-step check at Changi

  1. Join exactly #WiFi@Changi — not a similar name, and not one that appeared after you arrived at the gate.
  2. Complete the sign-in page and look at its address: the airport or its WiFi provider, ideally over HTTPS.
  3. Use apps and sites over HTTPS. If a site you know suddenly shows a certificate warning, stop.
  4. Keep banking and work logins for a network you have checked, or use mobile data or your company VPN.
  5. Turn off Auto-Join for this network before you leave, so your phone doesn’t silently rejoin a lookalike later.
