What the sign-in page should ask for
Because Travelodge sells paid WiFi, a payment page is part of the real flow, which makes a fake one harder to spot. Only pay after joining the exact network “Travelodge WiFi”, check the page address belongs to Travelodge or its WiFi provider, and use the official helpline if something seems wrong.
Rule of thumb for any public WiFi: a sign-in page may ask you to accept terms, register an email or watch an ad. It should never ask for a card number for free access, your email password or a bank login.
Lookalike networks
Travelodge publishes Travelodge WiFi. Travelodge Free WiFi, Travelodge_Guest or Virgin WiFi Free are not on its page.
Copycat networks (“evil twins”) broadcast a trusted-looking name, sometimes with a stronger signal than the real one. CISA advises confirming the name of a public hotspot before you use it.
A 5-step check at Travelodge
- Join exactly
Travelodge WiFi, not a similar name. - Complete the sign-in page and look at its address before typing anything.
- Use apps and sites over HTTPS. If a site you know suddenly shows a certificate warning, stop.
- Keep banking and work logins for a network you have checked, or use mobile data.
- Turn off Auto-Join for this network when you leave, so your phone doesn’t silently rejoin a lookalike later.
